What is Intertextuality?
This Year 12 SACE teacher explains it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b9I3WoEHBo, as well as talking about Appropriation, Allusions and Parody.
Types of Intertextuality
There are two main types: indirect (cultural or accidental references) and direct (deliberate references).
If you write a narrative using common horror tropes, you are using indirect intertextuality.
If you write a narrative and deliberately make a Beyonce joke by referring to ‘all the single ladies put your hand up!’, then you are using direct intertextuality
A really good video with media examples is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_CUd5apse4 but it is meant for an adult audience so the guy speaks in higher level English.
